Baphomet the origins and etymology including modern interpretation

Michael W. Ford discusses the origins of Baphomet from pre-Christian origins to Aleister Crowley, Luciferian Witchcraft and modern left hand path symbolism. Baphomet has a composition of many key elements in the occult traditions and is by end result a symbol of the Magus/Black Adept who is balanced with his or her Daemon (True Will).

  2. a comment upon the nature of Baphomet from ‘Secret Symbols of the Hell Fire Club’ (published 2010):

“…The transcendent height of this journey, this new found freedom and sense of stepping up into the LIGHT, is revealed to us within the Church of St Lawrence above the caves at West Wycombe. There, sitting upon a tiled floor depicting a burst of solar fire, above it a great golden flower like another ‘Sun in Splendour’ sits a mysterious object thought to be an Italian font.

A serpent chases a dove up the stem of the font, atop this arrangement are four doves at the corners of a square base in which is a circular base for a silver bowl. The bowl (kept in the church vault) has two further doves with wings outstretched and atop its covering lid is a figure of John the Baptist, though headless as if he had just paid the price to Salome…

This utterly unique piece of furniture is the sum of our journey, the ultimate hieroglyph of the Great Work of transformation. A ‘Baptism of Wisdom’ hinted at in the figure of BAPHOMET we saw in the caves: the figure of Capricorn, the Goat atop the cosmos of interlocked geometric forms, his hands indicating the upper and lower paths. This has been the passage from self to Selfhood, from individuality to UNITY.

The Four Doves, hinted at in the niches of the caves Great Chamber, are here before our eyes. Between them sits a pool of pure LIGHT, the true ‘Mirror’ of Urania which now shows us the whole starry heaven as it exists within us. Everything in harmony, the BAPTISM OF WISDOM which we saw depicted in a monstrous form beneath us, may now commence in union with the powers above us.

No longer are we merely human, but being identified with the energies of life in harmonious and abundant balance we may finally look into that limpid pool at the centre of the Four Doves and see, if only for a moment, the reflection of a light that has shone upon us from our very beginning…”

The faster way and the easiers way to reach to our lord (BAPHOMET) is near our feet.
